Concrete Walls and Trex Gates

Many people have concrete or brick walls around their yards, or they might have brick pillars with fencing in between them. Sometimes it becomes an issue finding a gate and attaching it correctly.  Many people like the trex fence gates that we build. They are maintenance free, strong and long lasting and they are very good looking. The issue with attaching Trex gates to these kinds of walls is that the  trex hardware is not meant for it. Over time the screws would pull out of the concrete or brick or they wouldn’t have a good attachment to begin with.  With constant stress from opening and closing the gate there is chance for the materials around the screws to crumble loosening the grip and letting the gate detach from the wall.  The trex hinge must be used because it was specially designed to attach to the trex gate with the screw holes in the exact spot so the self tapping screws grab onto the interior steel frame inside the gate.

One thing that we have tried that works well is Attaching a piece of wood up against the edge of the gate on both sides. For a smaller gate using a 2×4 is good enough but for a 5’ gate I would suggest anchoring a 4×4 post up against the edge of the wall ( I don’t recommend trying to attach very large trex gates to concrete walls). I would make sure to use a very weather resistant wood like Cedar. Using the right kind of screw is important; we use Titen HD Concrete Anchors.  Use a hammer drill to get the right size hole in the wall. You will want to make sure you counter sink the wood so the heads of the Concrete anchors don’t stick out past the face of the wood. Once that is attached we cut a Trex post in half so it will cover the 2×4. Now that we have a sturdy attachment to the wall we can use the trex Hinges to attach the gate to the wood/trex post we just created. Part of the hinge might need to be cut off so it will fit over the trex post and up against the Wall. You can cut a trex cap in half to cover the top of each post.Attaching Trex Composite Gates to Concrete Wall Utah's Fence Supply
