DIY Fence Highlight: Mike Ackley

Mike Ackley of Taylorsville, UT was able to build an incredible full privacy fence all on his own by using our materials. Mike chose to go with the Mini Winds style and was able to create the look he wanted with the budget he had.

We asked Mike what he thought of the process. Read his response below.

Installing the fence wasn’t too difficult once we figured out the first section. The instructions were easy to follow. After the first section the fence went up pretty quickly.

The biggest challenge was setting the post prior to assembly. Having a couple extra hands definitely made the difference.

The quality of the cedar boards were far superior to what you will find at the big box stores. We only had a few boards that were out of true. They also made sure I had plenty of extra for any miscuts.

The only issue we ran in to was we installed the cedar slats the same day we picked up the materials. We butted them tightly together but within two days they shrunk to the point they had 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap between. It’s still very private but something that I think is good to know before assembling.
